Markdown is the lightweight text format. MarkItDown is Microsoft's open-source library that extracts content from files into Markdown. TokenPig runs MarkItDown, then adds a cleanup pass to trim noise and reduce tokens.

Models read plain text best. Markdown keeps headings, lists, tables and code as simple, predictable text — so the AI spends fewer tokens and reasons over your content more reliably than with raw exports.
