Why this page exists

Excel is excellent for calculation and tabular work, but a workbook is not always the best format for a prompt, documentation page or knowledge base. Formula logic, hidden sheets and formatting can also make it unclear what an AI system actually receives.

TokenPig converts spreadsheet content into Markdown tables and text. This is most useful when the workbook contains a manageable amount of structured data that you want to inspect, explain or summarize.

What you get

A cleaner path from file to useful context

Readable tables

Represent rows and columns in a lightweight format that is easy to paste and review.

Better prompt control

Choose the relevant data instead of handing an AI assistant an opaque workbook.

Documentation ready

Move small reference tables into READMEs, process docs and internal knowledge bases.

Simple portability

Reuse the same converted table across ChatGPT, Claude, repositories and note tools.

How to use it

A few steps, with a review before you trust the output

  1. 01

    Prepare the workbook

Remove irrelevant sheets or sensitive data and make headers explicit.

  2. 02

    Upload the XLSX

Choose the file and let TokenPig extract the available sheet content.

  3. 03

    Review formulas and sheets

Confirm whether the output contains displayed values, formulas or both, and verify sheet boundaries.

  4. 04

    Use the Markdown

Paste the relevant tables into an AI prompt or publish them in documentation.

Good fit

Useful when you need to

  • Ask an AI assistant to explain a small operational table
  • Convert pricing, inventory or schedule tables into documentation
  • Share a lightweight snapshot without distributing the workbook
  • Prepare tabular context for a report or knowledge-base article
Limitations

What to review honestly

  • Markdown is not a replacement for formulas, macros, pivot tables or workbook interactivity.
  • Very wide or large sheets can become difficult for both humans and language models to use.
  • Merged cells and presentation-oriented formatting may not map cleanly to a simple table.
  • Hidden sheets, formulas and calculated values must be checked before relying on the output.

FAQ

Questions specific to this workflow

Are Excel formulas preserved?

The result may emphasize displayed values rather than reproducing workbook calculation logic. Verify the output when formulas are important.

Can TokenPig convert multiple sheets?

The converter can extract workbook content, but you should check how sheets are separated and remove irrelevant tabs before conversion when possible.

Will merged cells work in Markdown?

Markdown tables do not natively support many advanced spreadsheet layouts. Complex headers may need to be flattened or rewritten.

Is this suitable for very large datasets?

No. Use a data-analysis workflow or database for large datasets. Markdown is best for focused tables that fit the context and task.

Can I use the output in ChatGPT?

Yes. Paste only the relevant table and explain the columns, units and question you want answered.

Cleaner documents. Better context.
