Why this page exists

Word documents are easy to write but awkward to reuse outside Word. Copying a long DOCX into an AI chat often carries inconsistent spacing, damaged lists and formatting artifacts that make the result harder to inspect.

TokenPig extracts the document structure and produces lightweight Markdown. The output is easier to read as plain text, edit in a code editor, store in git or paste into an AI workflow.

What you get

A cleaner path from file to useful context

Cleaner than copy-paste

Avoid dragging Word-specific formatting and invisible styling into your prompt.

Portable content

Move policies, procedures, briefs and reports into tools that do not understand DOCX well.

Readable structure

Keep headings, lists, links and basic tables in a format humans and language models can parse.

Easy versioning

Store the result as a text file and review meaningful changes without binary document diffs.

How to use it

A few steps, with a review before you trust the output

  1. 01

    Choose the Word file

Upload a .docx file within TokenPig’s supported size limit.

  2. 02

    Convert and clean

TokenPig extracts the content and removes formatting that is not useful in Markdown.

  3. 03

    Review special elements

Check nested lists, complex tables, footnotes and embedded objects.

  4. 04

    Use the result

Copy the Markdown or download it for ChatGPT, Claude, docs or a knowledge base.

Good fit

Useful when you need to

  • Convert standard operating procedures into AI-ready context
  • Move internal documentation from Word into a Markdown knowledge base
  • Prepare proposals, reports and meeting notes for analysis
  • Create clean source text for documentation sites or repositories
Limitations

What to review honestly

  • Track Changes, comments and revision history may not be represented as they appear in Word.
  • Text boxes, SmartArt and layout-heavy pages can lose their visual relationships.
  • Advanced tables, equations and embedded objects may need manual review.
  • Markdown preserves structure, not the original visual design.

FAQ

Questions specific to this workflow

Does TokenPig preserve Word headings?

Standard heading styles can be represented as Markdown headings. Documents that only imitate headings with font size and bold styling may be less predictable.

What happens to images in a DOCX file?

The main value of this workflow is extracting reusable text. Image handling depends on the conversion pipeline and should not be treated as a replacement for a visual document archive.

Are comments and tracked changes included?

Do not assume Word collaboration metadata will appear exactly as shown in Word. Accept or reject revisions before conversion when the final text matters.

Can Markdown replace the original DOCX?

Use Markdown as a reusable text version. Keep the DOCX when you need exact pagination, branded formatting, signatures or print fidelity.

Why use Markdown for AI?

Markdown keeps useful hierarchy with very little syntax, which makes the text easier to inspect and generally more efficient than carrying rich document formatting.

Cleaner documents. Better context.
